American Corner Opening
Cutting the Ribbon: Ambassador Patricia Moller and President Mamadi Kourouma dedicate new Sonfonia American Corner (State Dept)
On July 19, 2012, Ambassador Patricia Moller and Sonfonia University President Mamadi Kourouma opened the U.S. Embassy’s second American Corner in Guinea at the newly renovated Sonfonia University auditorium in the neighborhood of Conakry. In her remarks Ambassador Moller talked about the significance of the American Corner as a space for dialogue between Guineans and Americans. She also highlighted a variety of programs that the American corner will utilize in connecting Guineans with Americans. These programs include video screenings, discussion forums, and guest speakers. Ambassador Moller explained that “American Corners help to introduce local citizens to the ideas and values of the United States.” On hand for the ground opening were Gbantaman Sow, Minister of Youth and Youth employment, over 80 Guinean government representatives and community leaders, educators, and business people from Conakry and surrounding areas.
