Guinea-United States Alumni Association holds 2009 General Assembly

On May 26, the Guinea-United States Alumni Association (GUSAA) held their 2009 General Assembly at the U.S. Embassy in Conakry.  Ambassador Elizabeth Raspolic opened the meeting, emphasizing the important role that alumni can play in promoting good governance and democratic values in Guinea.   67 alumni of Embassy sponsored exchange programs gathered to discuss the progress made by their association in the past year, as well as to elect a new board to represent the group and to discuss future projects.

Following an animated meeting, the group elected the 2009-2010 board members, who will be led by Ahmed Tidiane Diallo as GUSAA president.  Through a grant from the Department of State, the Alumni Association now has a meeting place where it can meet to exchange ideas and plan activities to share what they learned through their experiences in the United States.

Journalists, doctors, lawyers, politicians, NGO leaders and business people are just a few of the professionals represented among Guinea’s alumni association.  Each member has participated in one of a variety of U.S. government exchange programs and is committed to multiplying the impact of their visit by sharing what they learned with their fellow Guineans through Alumni Association activities.
