Change in the US Visa Application Process
October 6, 2006
US Embassy, Conakry, Guinea, September 29, 2006: The United States Embassy in Conakry announces that starting November 1, 2006, all visa applicants must apply using the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF). Use of the EVAF will be mandatory not only in Guinea but at U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Applicants can find the EVAF conveniently located on the internet at http://evisaforms.state.gov. Applicants may use any public access internet service, including internet cafes, to access the form. Filling out an EVAF online is free of charge.
This process will allow consular officers to reduce time spent loading the data on the application and thereby allow them more time to review visa applications. Additionally, families using this form can fill in duplicate information for each family member with a few short steps instead of writing out each form by hand.
All applicants, whether for government, official, or emergency travel, will need to use the EVAF. Residents in Guinea or others wishing to apply for a non-immigrant visa at the US Embassy are encouraged to consult the tips below.
1. Apply for your Visa well in advance of your travel.
2. Go to http://evisaforms.state.gov on the internet. Follow the instructions carefully. Instructions are provided in French.
3. Verify that all the information is correct including passport numbers and birthdates. Any mistakes could delay the application. Follow the instructions to print the form. Do not print directly from the screen. The barcode that prints on the last page contains your data and will help the consular officers to process your application more quickly.
4. In Conakry, residents must contact ECOBANK in order to make an appointment and pay the necessary application fees.
5. On the day of your scheduled interview, please arrive by 7:30 AM. Bring all of the original printed pages from your EVAF and the receipt from ECOBANK with you. Copies and faxes cannot be accepted. Please do not fold the printed application form. Additional items needed are two 5cm by 5cm color passport style photos. As part of the visa interview, a quick fingerprint scan should be expected. Applicants who need additional screening are informed during the application process.
