U.S. Marines Bring Toys to Hospitalized Children in Conakry
January 27, 2009
Each year, the U.S. Marine Corps carries out a toy drive in November and December to deliver toys to children around the world during the Christmas holiday season. This year, the U.S. Marines based at the U.S. Embassy in Conakry carried out a toy drive among the American community to bring toys to the children of Guinea. The Marines were assisted by students at the American International School of Conakry, who organized a fundraiser at their school to purchase toys to contribute to the Marine’s drive.
On January 27, a group of Marines from the U.S. Embassy in Conakry, led by Detachment Commander Mathieu Foster, delivered toys to each of the hospitalized children at the Pediatric Hospital at Donka, as well as many of the children at the San Gabriel Hospital.
At both hospitals, the staff generously assisted the Marines in making sure that every child received a special gift. The Marines were grateful for the opportunity to bring a little joy to the children during a difficult time in their lives and look forward to next year’s toy drive.
