Prince Among Slaves Pre-Screening

U.S. Embassy Conakry employees watching "Prince Among Slaves".

Public Affairs Conakry has been working with a film project on a true story based in the Fouta-Djallon region of Guinea for some time. The film follows the true story of an African prince sold into slavery in the American South based on a book written by an American research historian at Northern Virginia Community College, Professor Terry Alford.  The filmmakers graciously provided an advanced copy to preview at the Embassy for Americans and their Guinean colleagues in return for the Public Affairs Section’s assistance in providing French sub-titles which will allow this to go on to reach a much larger audience in the area.

The local staff and Americans alike were touched by this story that put together an accurate account of a piece of African and American history. Members of the audience answered questionnaires on the film which will help gage its impact reaching out to the broader public in Guinea, Africa, and the United States. The Public Affairs section is looking forward to showing this film to the general public in the near future.
