Rural Radio of Mamou Transmitter grand opening
PAO McLean and his staff participated in the inaugural ceremony of the new transmitter of Radio Rurale of Mamou. PAS Conakry purchased this more powerful transmitter to help the community radio station reach a larger audience in Middle Guinea. The embassy team was warmly welcomed with traditional Fulani song and dance by members of the community.
The Vice Mayor of Mamou and the Director General of the radio station presided over the ceremony. Thanks to this gift from the Embassy, Rural Radio of Mamou will be able reach its listeners who are in areas that are very isolated and where access to information is extremely limited. As Guinea prepares to move towards democratic elections, Radio Rurale of Mamou is now well equipped to prepare citizens to participate in the electoral process. Following the dancing and speeches, the embassy team and members of the local delegation proceeded to the ribbon cutting at the site of the radio transmitter.
The PAO was then presented with gifts, including a traditional boubou made of traditional Fulani fabric. The day came to a perfect conclusion with a feast prepared by the hosts. The purchase of this transmitter by the Embassy will not only improve relations between the Embassy and the people of Mamou, it will also provide a platform to discuss democracy and elections and be used to broadcast VOA news.
