Ambassador's Self-Help Program Encourages Rural Education Program

Julie Winn, Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy in Conakry, cut the ribbon marking the official opening of a several new classrooms and other facilities at the primary school in the small village of Walia. In the spirit of the Ambassador’s Self-Help Program, the community of Walia put forth an enormous effort to build this school and to promote education especially among girls.  Ms. Winn expressed the pride of the Embassy and the American people in contributing financial support to the project. The entire village including local government officials and the school’s director welcomed the American delegation with traditional dancing, food, speeches, and theatrical performances.
