2007 Warden Information

Consular Warden Message

U.S. Embassy Conakry
January 20, 2006

The U.S. Embassy in Conakry is issuing this Warden Message to inform Americans that American Embassy personnel are being permitted to undertake limited movements in Conakry today and tomorrow.   Given calmer conditions in the city January 20, we have relaxed security restrictions somewhat to permit stocking of  provisions and fuels, and private visits among neighbors. Unnecessary travel is strongly discouraged. The situation remains volatile throughout Conakry, and disruptions are unpredictable.

Anyone traveling is urged to remain alert to their surroundings and to avoid crowds.  Americans are not targeted in this strike, but could be caught up in violent demonstrations.  We will closely monitor the situation as events develop, particularly with regard to security conditions, and will issue additional notices as information becomes available.

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Americans in Guinea are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy through the State Department’s travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov, and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Guinea. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in Conakry.  By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.  The U.S. Embassy located on the Transversale No. 2, Centre Administratif de Koloma opposite the New Radio Station in Ratoma, Conakry, Guinea; telephone +224-30-42-08-62 through 68 or fax +224-30-42-08-71; email consularconakr@state.gov.
