2007 Warden Information
Consular Warden Message
U.S. Embassy Conakry
January 22, 2006
The U.S. Embassy in Conakry is issuing this Warden Message to inform Americans that the U.S. Mission continues to function, albeit with reduced staff. Due to continued potential for unrest, including the possibility of demonstrations and marches in Conakry and in cities in the interior, Embassy personnel not at work as well as all embassy family members have been instructed to resume their "standfast" security posture effective morning of January 22. They are to remain at home, and we urge private American citizens to do likewise. Due to sporadic, unpredictable violence, it is unsafe to move about town.
Please remain alert to your surroundings and avoid crowds. Americans are not targeted in this strike, but could be caught up in violent demonstrations.
We will closely monitor the situation as events develop, particularly with regard to security conditions, and will issue additional notices as information becomes available.
For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/ where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m.
to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
Americans in Guinea are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy through the State Department's travel registration web site, https://travelregistration.state.gov/, and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Guinea. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in Conakry. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency. The U.S. Embassy located on the Transversale No. 2, Centre Administratif de Koloma opposite the New Radio Station in Ratoma, Conakry, Guinea; telephone +224-30-42-08-62
