2008 Warden Information

Consular Warden Message

The Embassy reminds American citizens that the situation between the military mutineers and government of Guinea has not been fully resolved.  Disruptions in Conakry and elsewhere remain possibilities.  In addition, teachers have indicated that they intend to strike beginning next week.  All Americans are strongly advised to stock up on basic necessities today and Saturday.

The following list should prove helpful.

Suggested “Preparedness” List of household items (for 72 hours)
Drinking water (approximately 1 gallon/4 liters per person per day)
Non-perishable food
Snack items for children
Shelf stable milk
Flashlights
Extra Batteries
Candles
Lighter or matches
Non-electric can opener
Battery operated radio
First aid supplies
Toilet paper
Toiletries
Pet food, if applicable
Any medication taken regularly
First Aid kit
A supply of local currency
Recharge Cards for your cell phone (At least 50,000 GNF) set aside for Emergencies

Notes:
All members of household (including school-aged children) should practice using radios.
If you have a car, always keep the fuel tank at least half full.
Remember to keep at minimum at least 30,000 GNF of credit in your cell phone.
For working couples, please remember to take time out of the work day to go and prepare your household.
As always, we encourage you to fully fuel any household vehicles and maintain more than half a tank whenever possible.  In addition, please remember to keep your cell phones with you while you are out and about, and turned on if at home.
