2006 Warden Information

Consular Warden Message

U.S. Embassy Conakry

June 17, 2006

The U.S. Embassy in Conakry is issuing this Warden Message to inform Americans that the unions and the Guinean government have reached an agreement. The general strike throughout Guinea has been called off.

We continue to monitor the situation. The agreement may not satisfy all strike supporters or the general population. The security environment is still uncertain. All Americans should be prudent, exercise caution, and remain alert to their surroundings as they carry out their business and move about the streets. Please avoid crowds.

Americans should use all security precautions and consider restocking consumable supplies.

The U.S. Embassy will issue additional notices, if necessary, as information becomes available.

For the latest security information, Americans should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings and Public Announcements can be found.
