2008 Warden Information

U.S. Embassy Conakry Warden Message
July 25, 2008

The Embassy of the United States strongly recommends that American citizens defer all nonessential travel within Conakry between midnight and dawn. This Warden Message follows at least two incidents in which individuals have been stopped and robbed late at night by persons in military garb brandishing weapons.

The attacks appear to be well organized, involving up to a dozen soldiers, or persons presenting themselves as soldiers. All of the known attacks have taken place in Conakry. If any American citizen finds him- or herself facing armed soldiers/robbers demanding money, the Embassy recommends they comply with the demands. In addition,  please report any such incident to the Embassy.

If you have questions or concerns about safety or related issues, you are encouraged to contact the Consular Section at the Embassy. During normal business hours--Monday through Thursday 07:30 to 16:30, Friday 07:30 to 13:30--please call 64-43-47-82.  After hours, please call 64-32-43-41. Inquiries or information transmitted by email to the consular section of the Embassy at ConsularConakr@state.gov will be read the morning of the next business day.

For the latest security information,  Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings can be found.
